Automatically Inserting “Qāla Taʿālā”, Basmala, or Istiʿādhah Before the Verse

In many academic, religious, and publishing contexts, it is customary to precede a Quranic verse with an introductory phrase such as “Qāla  Taʿālā” (Allah, the Exalted, said) (قال تعالى), the Basmala (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم), or the Istiʿādhah (أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم). The Quran Word Plugin offers a convenient way to insert these phrases automatically before the verse, saving time and ensuring consistency in formatting.

Why Add an Introductory Phrase?

Whether you are preparing a sermon, an Islamic study paper, or a publication, using an introductory phrase before quoting a verse adds clarity and reverence. Each phrase serves a different context:

  • “Qāla Taʿālā” (قال تعالى): Commonly used in scholarly and educational texts when referencing a verse as a quotation.
  • Basmala (بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم): Used before reciting a verse or Surah, especially when starting a chapter.
  • Istiʿādhah (أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم): Often placed before beginning Quranic recitation for protection and focus.

How to Insert These Phrases Automatically

The plugin gives you the option to insert one of these expressions automatically before the verse is placed in the Word document. You can activate or deactivate this feature according to your needs.

1. From the add-in ribbon at the rightmost you can choose:

  • None
  • Qāla Taʿālā
  • Basmala
  • Istiʿādhah

Every time you insert a verse, the selected phrase will appear directly before it.

Formatting and Styling

Each phrase is inserted with clean formatting that matches the document’s font and layout. You can further customize:

  • Font size
  • Alignment
  • Italic or bold styling
  • Position (on the same line or on a new line)
